Also for the Ladies

This is an e-mail that came out to the Colorado High School List. This will be a great place to meet some of the other high school players, as well as Women who are playing on the local college teams. Be sure to let Heather for a registration form.

Want to have fun playing ultimate and meeting other ladies who love the sport?...

“HIGH SCHOOL REUNION TOURNAMENT!”

(WOMEN’S ULTIMATE FRISBEE MIXER TOURNAMENT)
Sunday, October 14th!

Brief Tournament Description

This fall, Kali (CU Women’s Club Ultimate team) will be hosting another women’s mixer tourney called High School Reunion to promote women’s ultimate in Colorado. The tourney will be held on Sunday, October 14th.

Women of all ages are welcome!

Players sign up as individuals and rank themselves in a way similar to summer league (cost will be $10 per player). We will then mix players from different backgrounds and ages together on teams that are as evenly matched as possible. Depending on numbers, we'll probably have 10-12 players per team, with high school, college, and adult players on each team.

$10 tournament fee. That’s it!

We would love to have women representing from all 5 Colorado colleges that were at sectionals last year (Colorado, CSU, Colorado College, Mines, and Air Force) and from as many of the local high schools as possible. We are also looking to have as many GRU women as possible (help spread the love of ultimate to the younger players!). Rookies playing ultimate for the first time are fully expected and encouraged to attend along with more veteran players of the sport.

No age OR skill level requirements!

The tourney will be a great opportunity for the college and high school players who represent the future of Colorado women's ultimate to meet each other and other veterans of the sport in a fun festive tourney, and to play with teammates from all across the state.

How do I sign up?

Email Heather Waugh (Waugh@colorado.edu) to receive the registration form. Send it back to her, and pay the registration fee on the Sunday morning of the tournament. You will receive a confirmation email upon registration. Questions? Email or call Heather at 720-839-4163

Things to do over the next couple of weeks

This weekend (7/21 - 7/22) is GRUB; a high Level Co-ed Tournament up in Boulder. If you ever wanted a chance to heckle me, this could be your best opportunity. Bad Larry is in a good, tough pool on Saturday, and Sunday...Well, we'll see how that shakes out. The schedule and directions are up here: (http://gru.org/tournaments/grub/)

Next Friday, let's play some pickup at City Park. 6:00. Everybody out there. I'm sure there will be some chumps out there playing soccer, or rugby, or dodgeball, or some other sport that chumps play. Let's get so many East Players that they say to themselves, "Man, that team must be amazing. I want to play with them". But, then, when they ask if they can, we can say, "Sorry, you're a bunch of chumps". Let's get that many people out there.

The weekend after that (8/4 - 8/5), Colorado Cup, in Boulder on the same fields as GRUB. Some of the sickest teams in the country are going to be there; Johnny Bravo, Rare Air, Ozone (Atlanta), Jam (San Fran), Boston Ultimate (Boston...duh), Condors (Santa Cruz), Box Lunch...If a tournament like this happens in your backyard, you go. Let's get a caravan together and head up there for an afternoon.

Two Announcements

1. Practice from now until the end of the Season will be until 6pm

2. I talked with a friend of mine who I play with on Bad Larry about coming out and doing a Hucking Clinic on Wednesday from 3:30 - 4:30 or so. He is much more qualified to talk about hucking than I am. If you are going to come to this, please let me know by saying that you will be there in the forum post entitled "Wednesday". If we don't have enough people we can reschedule, but Wednesday works best for him.

Q & A about this weekend

What's going on with B-Team States this weekend?
B-Team States this Saturday (Only Saturday) at CA. Games start at 9. Captain's meeting at 8:30. We'll meet at 7:30 out front at East. On the road at 7:45. Warming up by 8:15. We'll have four or five games.

Who's playing in B-Team States for East?
These are the people who I'm counting on being there: George, BSG, Shaggy, Maggie, Tim, Talya, Neal Z, Lily, Frogger, Julian. The purpose of this tournament is to get people who won't get too much playing time at States some experience. So far, we have looked on this as a weekend for the Freshmen. But, if you feel the experience of playing at this tournament would be beneficial to you, come talk with me on Thursday or Friday. We'll talk about whether or not you can play this Saturday. We only have ten people listed above. I'd like to get a few more to round out the roster.

What should I bring?
Cleats, Light and Dark Shirts, Sunscreen, Rain Gear. Also some food and water for the day. There will be none provided

What if I'm not playing this weekend? Should I be there?
Yes. This is your team. Get out and support them. They'll be at States supporting (and playing with) you.

Schedule for this week

Thursday - Game at New Vista in Boulder. Directions will be forthcoming.

Friday - Practice as normal for most. Freshmen have a game against DSST. We'll need someone's parents to help drive.

Sunday - Johnny Bravo Clinic at CA. This is voluntary and not a required team activity. But, I'm sure it will be very valuable and I recommend going if you can. On Thursday and Friday, let's figure out who's going and organize rides

As a reminder, the multi-team clinic will be held at Colorado Academy on Sunday, April 29th at 3:30pm. We will providing instruction and demonstration of specific skills including marking, breaking the mark, cutting and downfield defense. Following each instruction and demonstration, we will run a series of drills to practice each specific skill. To finish we will conduct a pick up game where kids will have a chance to play with other kids from different teams and have a chance to work on their skills in a game situation. During the scrimmage, Bravo players will be on hand with helpful hints for the kids as they come on and off the field. We will also have some of our most avid strength and conditioning enthusiasts at the clinic to discuss exercise programs with anyone who is interested (this will not be part of the scheduled clinic format - for kids who are interested only).

All we would request is that teams in attendance bring their personal discs to the clinic to ensure that there are enough to run these drills with
