Date Change: Awards Potluck Is June 9

Brenna breaking her markWe've changed the date for what is certain to be the ultimate Ultimate social event of the season: the East Ultimate Awards Potluck. It is now set for June 9 at 6:30 PM.

Please plan on attending. We will say thank you to our coaches - who have worked incredibly hard for nine months on this team, celebrate the season, and give awards to players for various (but we are told, appropriate) things.

We are still looking for a place to hold this fabulous event. Mary Ellen Scanlan & George Blankenship (Kit's parents) have again graciously offered their house, but Mary Ellen has some concerns. First, the Scanlan/Blankenship yard is not big enough to throw anything, and certainly doesn't lend itself to throwing frisbees. Accordingly, if anyone has a big yard (or lives across from a park), that location might be a better choice. Second, Mary Ellen and George are racing around that day and will not have much time to arrange things before the dinner. So, if you would be willing to host the potluck, please let Mary Ellen or Mark Hughes know.

John & Ellen Hokanson (Neal & Brenna's parents) are coordinating who will bring what. (If you haven't heard from them already, you will shortly.)

Summer League

Applications for the Denver Summer Youth Ultimate League ("DSYUL") must be postmarked by June 1. The League plays June 14th through August 16th on Tuesday nights from 7PM until dark. Last year, the league played at the Schaeffer Athletic Complex. (location)

The league is relatively informal. Eeach team has a coach, there is a schedule, and the games are competitive, but missing a few weeks for vacations etc. is not a big deal. The teams are selected by the organizers and contain players with a spectrum of skills. Though each team has players drawn from several high schools, there are usually at least a couple East players on each team. Last year, the kids enjoyed improving their skills, as well as getting to know players from other teams. Recent graduates are welcome.

Joining only costs $30 (since our players are all UPA members). Women playing in the League for the first time pay only $15. (DSYUL application form)

Kali/Mamabird Ultimate Camp

This year Colorado is lucky to be home to an excellent ultimate camp. (In the past, attending a camp meant travelling to Massachusetts!)

The Junior Elite Methods ("JEM") Camp is being run by the CU ultimate teams (Kali and Mamabird) from July 31-August 5. The camp will be in Boulder, and the players will stay in student dorms at the University of Colorado campus. Tina will be one of the instructors.

JEM costs $490. Compared with any other resident sports camp of equal length, service, and instruction, this is a great deal. (more information)

Thanks For Cheering The Team On At States!

Thanks for being there, bringing food, drinks, water, ice, tents, and then even more food, water, ice, and drinks. Thanks, too, for all the cheering and support.

Thanks also to all the parents who helped by selling food.
